"I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain."

This is fun: a martial arts blogger analyzes Wesley and Inigo's duel with respect to the sword-masters they reference during the iconic scene in The Princess Bride. It's a good read, especially if you have studied your Agrippa.

Which I have.

  2. Good afternoon Mike,
I don't know if You visit this old blog of yours, but I would like to ask a question regarding Flashing Blades. (I read the rules a few times, but I can't find this info)

    1. most characters start with two weapon groups (brawling+old school, two fencing schools, etc.)
    2. since using fencing against masters is hopeless (they always parry), what is left is brawling, firearms (they cannot parry these), or using a heavy weapon to ruin their rapier/sword...

The question is, how does a PC learn a new fighting style (brawling or firearms usually), if it is not in his starting package? When they gain intelligence during play (instead of the "learn new skill for 20-50 livres?).

Also, thanks a lot for the blog! I found it like two years ago, without knowing anything of Flashing Blades. It sparked my interest, and adventuring in historical eras became a regular on my schedule. (of course, being hungarian, my games are more Austria-Hungary-Venice-Poland-Cossack/Tartar-Ottoman empire centered then the core FB, but the system works flawlessly.)

    Thanks a lot!
